Ministering to our Military
This Host Highlight is a testimonial we received from a parent after the Red Team’s visit to Columbia, South Carolina, for Week Two.

Two of our sons attended camp this past week in Columbia. This was the first all-day camp that they had ever been to, and the boys were so excited. By the end of the first day, they were begging for swag to represent their villages and sharing stories about Team Time, Wake Up, worship, snacks, and Skills, where they were making new friends and bonding with Summer Staff. I knew they were creating memories that they will look back on fondly for years to come.

We are an active-duty military family, and we haven’t been here in Columbia for a full year yet. With each PCS (Permanent Change of Station), we pray that God leads us to a church family where we can grow in faith and community. When Village Church announced that WinShape Camps was coming to our community, I felt an immediate call on my heart to register our oldest two sons. I am so thankful I did!

Our boys were mentored and witnessed to. They were in a safe environment to ask questions and with trusted adults who could answer them. They had more fun this past week than they might have for the rest of the summer! Crafts, archery, cooking, football, games, and team building exercises were the icing on the cake. WinShape provided a Christian-focused atmosphere with biblical truths woven into all of the activities that was such an incredible experience for our sons.

The Red Team made this week so special for our kids. Some of them sat with us for a few minutes after lunch on Friday Family Fun Day, and I was so grateful to get to know them better. They are in our prayers as they move forward with their summer of ministering to kids across the country. We consider ourselves tremendously blessed to have been a part of WinShape Camps this summer. It is our greatest hope that we will be able to see all the phenomenal staff again next summer—whether we are still in South Carolina, or the Army has called us elsewhere. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Emily Palladino

Growing up in Florida, you could find Emily either on the beach, or at the ice skating rink (oddly enough). She enjoyed perfecting her skating skills, reading, and even repping WinShape gear as a camper. She attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando where she studied Speech Pathology. Through college, Emily developed a deep passion for serving the local church and investing in kiddos. Pairing this passion with distant memories of cheering the “BoBo” every summer, she decided to hit the road with WinShape Camps for Communities every summer in college.

Fast forward to now, she has graduated college and just wrapped her fourth summer with WinShape, serving as Camp Director. Throughout the rest of the year, she serves as an intern on the Host Development Team and can’t wait to run it back for round 2 as a Camp Director! Outside of WinShape, Emily enjoys creating fun memories with her roommates, slowly but surely getting better at Pickleball, pilates, and mastering both her at home coffee and fun new recipes.

Aaron Collier

Aaron Collier was born in the great state of Kentucky and homeschooled from a young age, as he will proudly tell you. He grew up in a family with several siblings and loving parents who raised him to love the Lord. He attended the University of Mobile where he met the love of his life, Karen, and they were married in 2014. Aaron and Karen also decided to join WinShape Camps for their summers. Moving up the ranks from Team Time Leader to Volunteer Director to Director, Aaron served seven summers total, 5 of them with his lovely bride on his team. He began working in the home office, as it was called, first as an intern and then as a Host Dev Coordinator. He used this camp experience to launch into a 5 year career as a children's pastor at Piedmont Church in Marrieta, hosting WinShape Camps every year.

Now, Aaron is uniquely gifted to minister to the local church children's ministry leaders, having been one himself and hosted camp with all of its intricacies. Aaron has two children, Hattie Rae (5), and Josiah (3), who are currently obsessed with Descendants and Z-O-M-B-I-E-S. In his free time, Aaron is passionate about Disney, though he would not identify as a Disney adult and even plans Disney travel for friends and clients. He invests in the next generation through church, WinShape staffers, and his team. He serves as the Manager of the Host Development Team, partners with Georgia and Florida hosts, and works outside the box to create our theme elements and occasional voice-over or on-screen projects.

Stephanie Goodfellow

Stephanie was born and raised south of Atlanta in Hampton, GA. Her parents were property managers on a large farm, so her childhood memories center around feeding cows, riding horses, and playing in fields and creeks. She practiced karate for over 7 years and fun fact: she earned her black belt by age fourteen! Stephanie followed in her dad's footsteps, learning how to play trumpet, and was active in her high school's symphonic and marching bands. Around this time, she attended WinShape Camps for Girls at Mt. Berry as a camper, fell in love with camp, and knew she wanted to be a part of WinShape Camps someday.

Through college, Stephanie served as a summer staffer at WinShape Camps for Girls and is thrilled to be with WinShape Camps for Communities in a full time role after working for Chick-fil-A for many years. Stephanie serves in an Operations role on the Host Development Team, supporting Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee. She currently lives in Newnan, GA in what she jokingly refers to as the fraternity house with her husband, Forrest, two sons, Graham and Henry, and a silly golden retriever named Bryce. At home, she can be found baking in the kitchen, tending her vegetable garden, reading, and being a "sports mom".

Kurk Pyros

Kurk is from Orlando, FL. He grew up in a Christian home with a passion for the arts, serving with kids, and pursued hobbies like cross country and creative writing. In college at Southeastern University, he work as a camp counselor for WinShape Camp for Communities during the four summers of 2015-2018 as a Team Time Leader and a SWAT Team Lead. After graduating with his degree in Public Relations, he moved to Dallas, TX where he worked with an elementary school fundraiser, as a 3rd grade teacher and a 5th grade teacher, and briefly dabbled in software tech sales before moving to Atlanta to join the WinShape family.

Now, he enjoys playing pickleball, training for marathons once or twice a year, leading worship motions in children's ministry at his church, reading any kind of book, and watching over his pet fish Auggie. Get him talking about the show "Survivor," "The Inheritance Games" book series, or his favorite ice cream places. In WinShape, Kurk serves as the Host Development Representative for the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, California, Arizona, New Mexico. In addition, he works on the interview team for our summer staff and produces the Host Hub Newsletter, Host Hub Huddles, and Host Hub Site.

Brea Barentine

Meet Brea! Brea grew up in Fayetteville, GA and has lived there for 25 years. Fun fact: she has only lived in 2 houses in her life! She grew up playing and loving soccer, and went on to play soccer in college. Later she became a U4 soccer coach, learning the intricacies in the art of encouraging tiny tots to chase after the ball and occasionally each other. All fun and games of course! While at college, she finally realized her love of coffee and was on her way to become a barista master at a local coffee spot.

Brea was introduced to WinShape Camps early in life, growing up as a camper, then volunteering, and eventually joining as a staffer! When WinShape Camps came to her community every summer, she was over the moon excited. Now, she gets to continue in her passion and joy now as a Host Dev Rep serving the hosts of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Illinois, Kentucky, and Indiana! She also oversees the development of our hosts through additional partnerships and initiatives, and new this year, is joining the interview team to prayerfully discern who should staff our teams for this coming summer.
